This is why I'm for closed adoptions. That is, the parent(s) should give the child to a new set of parents who take full responsibility for the child. The new parents would not (or at least, they should not) tell the child that he was abandoned; they should tell the child that his or her birth parents made a difficult choice and decided that the new parents could give him or her a better life. I'm not at all for one parent leaving another to care for a child by herself, nor am I for one parent leaving and taking the child with him or her. Both of these are selfish acts, while both parents giving up a child for adoption is a difficult and selfless act.
