i own and shoot my guns (shotguns, handgun & rifles) because it is much fun and i can. it has nothing to do with protection. protection to me is a side benefit. it does take skill to be able to shoot. target shooting is an olympic event. i grew up learning how to shoot a .22 rifle at our local police target range.
skeet shooting is wicked fun.
hunting i have never been and can't see shooting animals for the sake of shooting them. if i was going to eat them or utilize other parts of them, then no problem. i have retired many animals for my, or others reasons. the main reason being a bullet costs under a quarter and the fucking vet will charge at least $75 for dope...then you have to dispose.
guns are fun, but must be treated with great respect.
