One thing you have to remember is that a lot of people out there really aren't funny. Because of this, people tend to stick to what they consider funny in all situations. For some people, I guess, this is funny. I would find it annyoing, but I kinda doubt that it's cock blocking. Next time just look at them blankly. Don't give them a pity laugh. As long as you don't reinforce their false belief that they are funny, they should leave you alone, and you might save the next guy who it bothers.
