The only blunders I can recall are the countless (and I mean COUNTLESS) times that I played all nighters on Phantasy Star Online (Dreamcast). I used to get to a point where I was so proud of what I had just done that I decided to end on a positive note. Most of the time, suffering from an apparent momentary lapse of reason, I would simply shut off my Dreamcast while I was still connected to the server. Any players of PSO know that, when you do this, your game does not save and you lose everything you worked so hard to attain. I used to lose a ton of kick ass weapons, not to mention an uncountable number of experience points.
Moral of the story: Keep your composure when playing and quitting Phantasy Star Online.
Another one that stands out is when I was playing Metal Gear Solid on PSX. I got to the part where you enter that one building, only to be caught Revolver Ocelot and his crew. Ignoring Mei Ling's constant pleads for a save, I entered the building and proceeded to face the big, bad electrocution device. Well, I'm mashing those buttons like crazy. I make it through the first round unscathed. On to the second. I try to get a better grip on the controller by holding it with my left hand right in the middle and mashing the button with my right. Well, as I'm frantically mashing away, I gripped the controller a wee bit too tight and hit the Selecet button, ultimately forfeitting to Revolver Ocelot. You are probably saying to yourself right now, "No big deal. You'll just get a different ending." You'd be right. However, in a moment of shear frustration over what I had just done, and figuring that my game was over right there, I marched over to my PSX and jammed down the on the power button. I had to start over basically from the beginning, as I had apparently not saved since I made it up past Vulcan Raven and his tank. I get back to that part and save right before I go in.
