My g/f and I do the period sex thing if we're together at that time (distance relationship, if she happens to be on her period when she comes to visit we're typically so horny it doesn't matter). Typically, however, the mess is enough of a problem that it's use a towel or in the shower, and we tend to do alot more anal around those times. On the upside there's something about that time that gets her off pretty hard.
As far as redwings, I've done it before and will probably do it again; I'm not crazy about the coppery taste (or on heavier days having the tampon string in my face), but I'll do it if she wants it.
