Here's what happens to me everytime I cross the border either way. Show ID, open trunk, that's it. When asked after the obligatory smoke and booze question how much I have spent and what is to be declared, I tell them small items,..ie golf shoes, small resort type gifts etc. I never have a problem because I am almost honest. I'll tell them 12 cans of bud and some vodka or whatever and usually is good enough. Not to be offensive, but I am white. Most people I see searched are people who aren't. Don't know if that is good or bad.
