Brian nailed it! The noise was the main reason why I didn't move into my fraternity house. But I have a big ass fan from the 70's, it sounds similar to an airplane engine, but filters out all the loud noise and gets me to sleep faster. That is how I survived in the dorms. I recommend going to Lowes or Home Depot, ask for a paint drying fan or something really loud, they will have what you are looking for.
