In a case where it's a scene I've already seen and enjoyed it's just fine but when it's an alternate ending and I can't even hear the actors doing what they do best that just annoys the hell outta me. Otherwise commentaries can be funny or interesting...but not when you completely take away from the scene itself while others are trying to enjoy it.

weird. Usually you can watch them as choices on or off. I cannot recall any that I've watched, though I don't watch that many of them with the commentaries. Only when I'm confused as why a choice was made/decision/change, etc. to help explain and understand what the end result was supposed to be like.
I can say that they have helped me understand movie making much better.
