What a long strange trip it's been... one of the greatest pioneering groups of electronic music is, *cringe*, breaking up. But not before they leave us with a final record - the blue album.
I was really scared to give this album a listen. I really disliked about 99% of their last release.. the two disc set, whose name I've blocked from my memory.... but I absolutely love this record. As always, Orbital goes into new territory, while maintainig their particular sound, and this time they do it quite proper. Out of the 12 original tracks, I'm not in love with just 2. Alot more chill overall, but technically and asthetically pleasing for beyond anything I would expected after their last album. I'd say this is one of those albums that must be heard live (like most orbital)... which is too bad, because that will probably never happen again... but I imagine hearing this live and just... woah... quite a mess I just made....
It's not In Sides.. that album must of been some genius fluke... but it's damn good. Running that delicate orbiting border line between house, techno, breaks, downtempo, and ? , I can't imagine anyone who likes good music not liking this.
listen to it now!
