Some of my favorite horror movies would be Exorcist, Night Of The Living Dead, Day of the Dead (mostly for the inventive gore factor), The Thing (Carpenter's best), The Shining, Event Horizon (initially, but its effect has worn off with subsequent viewings), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978 version), Poltergeist, Friday the 13th Part 1 (and only part 1), Alien, Jaws (if that counts), Halloween, and many more I'm sure I've forgotten for now.

I'm also a big fan of the late 70's, early 80's campy horror flicks like Evil Dead 2 and Night of the Creeps, but thats more for nostalgia than any value the movie itself actually held.
