PG-13 isn't a death nail. I'm sure they are thinking a lot of kids wanted to see this movie and rightfully so.
Also, as for marketing, they'll make a bundle in the theatres then when the DVD comes out with the "deleted scenes" (they had to cut to get a PG-13 rating instead of an "R"), they'll come close to doubling that take.
Personally, I think it has a great potential, but from the previews and the reviews I've read it sounds like they lacked the imagination to create a truly good classic movie, and just went for the name and franchise value. Which is idiotic because as seen with the last couple Star Treks and Bond movies, you can destroy a very profitable franchise fast by not giving it the creativity and quality the fans deserve.

I just love people who use the excuse "I use/do this because I LOVE the feeling/joy/happiness it brings me" and expect you to be ok with that as you watch them destroy their life blindly following. My response is, "I like to put forks in an eletrical socket, just LOVE that feeling, can't ever get enough of it, so will you let me put this copper fork in that electric socket?"
