I would say to frame the story the way it has been is to try to shield himself from the scandals surrounding him. It doesn't matter what his sexual preferences are -- going to a foreign country on an official delegation, picking up a lover, and giving said lover, lacking any qualifications (and failing a basic background check, to boot) a $110,000 a year job as the head of Homeland Security is, well, scandalous. And dangerous, as was mentioned before.
Homosexuality has nothing to do with it. I'd imagine his wife might be a bit upset about the whole thing, though. That matter is between him and his wife, however.
While I'm not gay, I'm still angry that he's demeaning gays by using a public coming out as a cheap shield to deflect attention.
