I saw it tonight at a free screening thing.
I have mixed feelings,
but here's my rant on it.
Spoiler: I'd been waiting for this movie ever since I saw the alien skull trophy in Predator 2. I knew before even going in tonight that the tagline would probably be too true, 'Whoever wins, we (the audience) lose.' My main complaints are the contradictions to the earlier films. The timespan/life cycle of the eggs to face huggers to impregnation to ejection to full aliens seemed to take 15minutes not a few days like in the earlier alien movies. The old explanation of the predators coming to earth in the hottest summers contradicts with them coming to one of the coldest places on earth. I would have preferred a slower paced more horror oriented movie, or at least a decent action flick. I realized that I would have to suspend my disbelief while watching this but it just takes me out of the moment when common sense inaccuracies are screaming out at me throughout the movie. How are the trained fellas packing the big guns going to be the first to die? And I can’t remember seeing anyone's steamy breath while being in an underground ice cave in Antarctica.
Were we even supposed to believe it was cold? Furthermore it doesn’t make sense why a predator wouldn’t just kill some woman to get its gun back. I guess this predator just had a heart of gold or something. And the predator king or whatever at the end just left the chick a spear as a reward for all her hard work. I mean, she's alone, wearing a t-shirt, and she just saved the day, and he doesn’t give her a ride or anything, not even a blanket. I guess he just expected her to stab herself in the face with it to end the pain of freezing to death. And another thing, the two pleasure giving moments I hoped would be in the movie were not. I was hoping the "sequel guaranteeing" ending with the 'predatalien' would have been one of the main features of the film, not some just some gimmick to setup another summer blockbuster. Another point I wanted to see was a skinned alien or two hanging upside-down in the pyramid dripping with green acid, reminiscent of the bloody soldiers found in the first predator movie. If they just would have shown a glimpse of that, it would have done it for me, I would have been satisfied. But despite all these complaints, I actually, overall, enjoyed the movie, but I think it should have been much better.
