I'm with you on the siple bit. Just named our first son Rory. His middle name is my wife's maiden name - which is also rather short "Marsden", so it's not too much of a mouthful.
Why did we pick Rory? No significance - it's not very common and we both liked it.
Nicknames - currently we are calling him "snorty" because he snorts and shuffles a lot!
