I think the dream team WAS the original team which had Jordan, Barkley, Magic, Bird, etc.
This is just the US team made up of NBA players and as someone else pointed out, not even the top 10-12 US players available. Just a team of those that didn't mind going.
However to believe that the US team should be able to just go in and beat everyone no problem, is like saying the Canadian hockey team should always be able to beat everyone.
