My brother's a crypto PO1 (E-6 for non-navy people), and he's actually been a recruiter for almost a year now. Don't know specifically what kind of crypto he does, but when he's out with the Fleet, he's on tin cans. Hope you enjoy what you do, and good luck with the DLAB. Took it myself, and at 0600 with no caffeine and 2 hours sleep, what I remember of it was that it was pretty danged weird. Only advice I could give (same goes for ASVAB) is practice pattern-recognition activities. All languages (or crypto) comes with base "rules" of enciphering/deciphering, and that's what the DLAB tests--your ability to encipher/decipher information in a timed, quantitative test.
