The easiest way to get a few HP out of an engine is to put on a cold-air intake with a K&N or Kool Blue air filter. After that, there are a number of directions you could go for more power. Reprogramming or chipping the ECU could give you an extra few horses, probably around 10-15, or 20-25 if you don't mind a significant fuel economy loss. New cams are always a good way to get more power, although too much of a change limits street use. A less restrictive exhaust system can get you more power and especially more torque, although you usually can't get a lot of both from the same system.
If you're looking for a lot more power, it's always a good idea to see if a full engine swap would be cheaper than something like an aftermarket turbo kit. If you could pull a 4cyl turbo engine out of a wrecked SCoupe GT, for example, it would be an engine designed to handle boost, and therefore wouldn't have many of the problems that aftermarket turbo installations tend to develop.
Overall, the best thing to do is to look at what other people have done, talk to them about it, and see what appeals to you.
