Tennis balls work if you want to replace them everday. That is, if your dog is a chewer. And yea, Kong's are indestructible, but damn near close. A friend of mine has a pit bull and it takes him about 3-5 months to destroy his Kong ball, whereas a tennis ball would be gone in .5 seconds.
