See, here are my ideas of grooming secrets:
When shaving my face, I shave "up and down" over the same region of skin - gives a much smoother shave and delays the 5 o'clock shadow to maybe 7 or 9PM. However, the first few times that you do that, if your skin isn't used to it, you can get razor burn.
I don't bother with fancy conditioners, etc. - I've got a 1/4" of hair on the top of my head, no need for anything but a twice-a-month shave.

Lucky bastid. If I shaved my face 'up' at all, I would end up with a bleeding field of ground beef.
I put lotion on my face and neck before I shave, every time I have time; maybe after I wake up, but before I get in the shower.
I ONLY shave in the shower, and after I've gotten my face and head good and wet. The new Mpower razors gellitte has out are the first thing that's ever let me shave 4 days in a row, without my neck bleeding and looking like I used sandpaper. Amazing.
Any way, I use unscented shaving gel Nivea seems to work well, no need for any more skin irritants than absolutely necessary. These new mpower razors I can get 4 shaves out of, the mach 3 turbo was 3. I can only shave in a down direction, and I try to shave over each spot on my face/neck-especially only once.
Most assuredly I'll be putting lotion on right after I get out of the shower.
I'm cursed with a tough fast growing beard, and sensitive skin. That's not funny, you know? My wife assures me that the beard and the brow ridge put me squarely in the neandertal catagory. I say since she's got almost no body hair, she's barely a mammal.
