I don't think these guys are being "metro-sexual". They're just taking an extra step to look nice. You don't have to own more products than your girlfriend but you don't have to look like crap because it's more "manly" either. If your girl loves your silky hair, she won't dump you because you use conditioner to keep it that way.
I'm a girl and I don't shave every day - I shave every 4 days or so, because I have pretty light hair and it doesn't grow back all that fast. However, some of my friends can shave one day and the next day they'll have dark hair sprouting up. Everyone's body is different.
I don't wear makeup or dye my hair. I don't need to and it's not my thing. But if you do, that's fine too. Some people do need it....same with eyebrow plucking and other stuff. Saying "I'm a girl and I don't do it" means nothing.
It's not about "being who you are". Changing some superficial things isn't changing who you are. But don't not be who you can be in terms of looks because someone else thinks it's uncool. If you don't like your hairy legs, by all means, trim them. You should be happy with how you look. Your friends can make fun of you all they want, but if the girls love the changes, the joke's on them.
