Anyone ever been to Nicaragua?
I was there for 4 weeks in May-June, and I had an amazing time. I stayed in the southwest corner, on the narrow strip of land between the lake and the Pacific Ocean.
The coastal area is very beautiful, but not as lush as Costa. It does not have much rain forest in that area, but it is still beautiful. I spent time at some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen.
The people there are very friendly and everyone is very family oriented. It is a developing nation, so there is a lot of poverty, but most everyone had power. It was kinda funny, we'd see these houses made of old boards, with cracks two inches wide between boards, yet there would be a huge stereo cranked full blast. Everyone was extremely nice and even though I speak poor Spanish (which improved a LOT by the end of the trip) they always tried as much as they could.
One of my favorite things to remember from that trip is how everyone's face would light up when we waved as we passed. People would whistle and give us a thumbs up. At the end of the trip I ended up giving away most of my clothes to the local kids. It was the best thing in the world to see their face when you gave them a pair of shorts or a surf magazine or some flip flops.
