If you've really heard underground like you've said you have, you would know that that statement is not true. Immortal Technique raps about politics, conditions, etc. His song "Dance With the Devil" is in my opinion the best song of all time. There are also rappers like Sage Francis and Aesop Rock who right beautiful poetry.
