Mine was an example of me being absolutely stupid.
I used to frequent this beach in Fort Erie, Ontario, driving up on summer days from Buffalo. It was a place where you'd park your car in this little dirt lot, walk about 1/2 a mile through swamp and woods, and you'd come across this beautiful beach - all privately owned except for this small little strip.
We all used to just leave our cars in this little lot, and I was stupid enough to forget my wallet one day. I had put it under my seat after I had gone through customs and forgot to take it with me.
When I got back to my car after the day at the beach, the window had been smashed in. They found my wallet and took that, along with my rollerblades. They used my credit card for about $400 worth of purchases before I cancelled it.
It was a completely stupid thing on my part. My wallet is now on me at all times. And when I returned to that beach, I always left all the windows open with nothing of value inside. I never had a problem like that again, but I always remember.

I told the local gang bangers that someone stole it from the front yard. A few days later I had my bike back and a nice story about how they beat the hell out of the theif.
