In certain situations, I would have done something but that guy really doesn't sound like someone you'd want to be messing with. Yes, he's an asshole and he yelled at you. So what? Did he physically hurt you? Did he put you in a horrible position? Nothing he said was that bad(by bad I mean offensive. He was being rude and annoying but he was also unreasonable and I've learned that you can't fight with someone that unreasonable). I can guarentee you most of the people that stopped and stared at you were thinking "wtf...that guy who's yelling has a stick up his ass". So...it doesn't seem like a good reason to fight imo. You probably had a much better night with your girlfriend than you would have if you were bloody and bruised up (and possibly arrested) for fighting an asshole who you'll never see again.
