When I was in the 8th grade, I left my backpack on top of the lockers during P.E. because it didn't fit in my locker that particular day (my lunch was in a very tall tupperware). Our gym teachers were always telling us not to do it, but at the time it seemed like a smaller risk to leave it for 37 minutes than to find some other safe place to put it and get marked tardy for class. When I got back, it was still there, but hours later I discovered that my wallet and pocket locker (I'll explain what this is in a second) had been ripped off.
My favorite Sanrio character wallet, and the $40 and $60 gift certificate to my favorite clothing store inside were all very recently acquired as Christmas gifts. The pocket locker, a password-protected PDA designed for little girls to keep their secrets and homework reminders in, was almost new as well. It was new enough for me to not have figured out the password function yet, but not new enough to not have all of my secret little thoughts about the boy I had a crush on stored within.
I didn't know what was worse - losing the secrets, the money, the fun stuff, or the trust of my family and gym teacher by leaving my backpack where they all told me not to.
It wasn't a laptop or anything else that expensive, but it felt like a pretty bad situation being a 13-year-old girl and all.
The 30 days will fly by.
