If there are ten different opinions on what it means to be equal... let me see.
What about people born without legs? They don't have the same potential as others. And people guilty of unespeakable crimes? They aren't worth including in society.
I think it used to mean equal in God's eyes. I think everyone is born as a child, blissful in it's ignorance of the world, fully prepared to believe faithfully in God no matter what. Then as they grow they see the world and get weary of their daily tasks and doubt God is there to help them, because he isn't making their day easier.
So all people are CREATED equal, but may not end up equal.
