Don't have sex for at least a day before the exam. That's my understanding as far as time goes. The doctor will do a physical examination to check her health and for anything that might indicate a problem. There will also be a test called a pap smear during which a cell sample will be taken from her cervix. This is routine, but you don't want anything that could possibly skew the results (that includes anything that might be left behind after sex).
Your best bet is to have her call her doctor and ask. She shouldn't be shy about asking, and the receptionist will be more than happy to answer that and any other question either of you might have.

A woman is supposed to visit the gyno for the first time either when she becomes sexually active, is thinking about becoming sexually active, or around the age of 18. Whichever comes first.
