I agree. It is much more cost-effective to purchase an enclosure and put in your own hard drive. Additionally, this allows you to upgrade the external hard drive as technology advances and prices drop.

The only caveat: purchase a quality enclosure. My friend lost his data when he went cheap (on the other hand, my bottom-of-the-line enclosure keeps chugging along).
