I survive exclusively by downloading old music from the 1940s all the way up to the 1990s. I download newer stuff occasionally, but I haven't really been inpressed with anything I've heard in the last couple of years. I like really obscure 70s and 80s rock and pop that most people have forgotten about. I don't see that it's hurting the music industry because most of what I download isn't even available on CD. Not to mention that I've bought hundreds of CDs over the years, some of them more than once because they got lost, stolen, or damaged. I certainly haven't gotten the "lifetime of listening enjoyment" promised on the cover out of every CD I've bought. So yeah, I feel justified in downloading music to recover my losses.
