I'm a Canadian and don't usually drink American beers. There are some good ones: Anchor Steam Beer and Sam Adams come to mind.
However, any excuse to have a beer is good enough for me. so I tried a black and tan. That's a half Smithwicks, half Guinness. Done right, it is a visual treat. The trick is to pour the Guinness very slowly over a spoon so that it doesn't mix with the Smithwicks.
