What everyone else said. I worked in an insurance office since I was 14 and we quoted many a college student in your similar situation/age with premiums upwards of $2k for 6 months. Your accident will stay on your record for 3 years, then it will go away. Try to get good grades. Most companies offer a discount to students with a 3.0 or better. My insurance company also gave a 10% discount to me brcause i went in and watched a silly 15 minute safety video and took a little safety quiz.
My advice to you is shop around. Dont go with comapanies like Farmers or State Farm, as those are geared towards people who have multiple cars and also Home insurance. Try some of those cheap places that advertise ALL THE FREAKIN TIME on daytime TV.
