Never as an adult. Don't figure I've been that close either. I'm just not in situations where it usually comes up. I'm only usually around friends or family. I don't go to bars, or clubs, or crazy mosh pits, or wild concerts, so it just seems that I'm not really in those situations. I think I'd like to keep it that way. I did take Tae-kwon-do for about half a year once though. That was fun. There's definitely something primal in us that likes fighting.. but I'd just assume to avoid it.
Never voluntarily as a youth. Was once hit by a kid I knew when I was a freshman in high school. I was walking home from school and he desperately wanted to be cool so he rode home with some loser upper classmen that egged him on to do stuff. They stopped, tossed him out and I guess told him to go hit me. He came up to me, and started mouthing something off, and I was like, "Craig, what are you talking about?" Then, he just hit me in the mouth. I just looked at him, stepped around him, and continued to walk home. If I had tried anything, the 4 other upper classmen in the truck would have jumped out and all taken their turn. I think I made the wiser choice to just walk away.
I'm surprised someone never beat the crap out of me though. I had a few people who wanted to I'm sure, but I would always either diffuse the situation someway, or I'd using biting sarcasm to make them look more the fool for wanting to fight in the first place and they would lose their "support" group because they'd be laughing at the person who wanted to fight in the first place.
