Technically I guess he is right, but that's not who I would have gone for.
Jimmy still had some gigs left in his contract as the Yardbirds when he formed Led Zeppelin, so they performed for about a half a year as the "New Yardbirds"
Allmusic.com has Plant singing in a band called Hobbstweedle right before joining Page for the New Yardbirds/Led Zeppelin. I would have never dredged that name out of the memory banks.
