First of all,
communism doesn't imply that you lack
democracy. One's an economical definition while the other's a political one. So, it's perfectly possible to have a communist democracy, just like it's possible to have a
capitalist dictatorship.
Secondly, in answer to your question, no. Not only were the NDP never the
communist party but the latter still exist!
