I spent a signifigant portion of my ill-spent youth listening to shortwave radio broadcasts. I had a old portable Zenith multi-band with tubes that used a battery as big as loaf of bread.
Broadcasters would frequently send you a "QSL" card to acknowledge your reception reports. I don't know if they still do it, though. But I had fun doing it and now find that I enjoy the radio quite a bit... Except for the fact that the only decent rock station is a ClearChannel piece of crap commercial ridden, cancerous, demon spawned bit of putrid garbage whose DJ's egos are thousand times greater than Hannibal Lector's, yet only having the appeal and intellect of a coprse.
