Or use sysprep, that's what it's designed for.
Sysprep rips all the hardware info out of Windows, then the next time it boots up, it redetects all the on the system, just like it does when you install from the CD.
Sysprep is the Microsoft way of pushing out images to bunches of machines that can have varying hardware. I use it a lot and it works great.
