I get chest pains on occasion, but mine are very sharp pains that I'm pretty sure are attributed to air/gas getting in the wrong place.
And you said that they were in the general area of your heart. There are lots of other organs in that area too. If it is happening as you breathe, it could be related to your lungs also. If it persists or increases in intensity, I would definitely go to the doctor if I were you.
Now, I have also had pain in my chest from a pulled muscle before and that hurts extremely bad too. However, it doesn't sound like you did that unless you left out something about the description of the pain.
