Things I dislike about X-Chat
So it's been quite awhile since I had used X-Chat. I decided to try it again since mIRC was giving me crap and there are several X-Chat zealots in #tfp.
This is my list of things I don't like about X-Chat.
1.) I keep my channels windows as opposed to tabbed. But that means that with every channel window I have open, I have that ugly menu bar at the top (X-Chat, IRC, Server, Settings, etc). I only want that bar to be on the window that holds my server tabs. mIRC could do this, but as far as I can tell, X-Chat cannot.
2.) The scrollbars. They are large and unattractive. I can deal with how they look, but I really want to see them about half the size they are. mIRC used your Windows themes, so I could control how they looked in mIRC.
3.) This is my biggest beef. The way the left side of the chat window works. It produces that line between all the nicks and the messages. So essentially the nicknames are right-justified to that line, and the timestamps are left-justified to the window. This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Someone comes in the channel with their 20-character nick and it causes all of your message text to be crushed into an inch of space while you're sitting there staring at all of that wasted space. Why can't they just use spacing like every other chat client? I don't give a flip if the messages aren't all aligned, it saves space. Good God, that is really really retarded.
4.) Text coloring. In mIRC, I had things set up so that if someone sent a message with my name in it, the line would be highlighted and play a sound. I want this in X-Chat. It looks like it might be do-able via the "Text Events" list, but that looks complicated. I also had my own messages highlighted to a slightly different color than the rest.
Well that's all I can think of right now. If you know how to fix any of the things I listed, please let me know. I'd like to continue using X-Chat, but these things bother me pretty badly.
