Take a long hot shower first, keep the steam up in the room. This keeps the pores in the skin open and will allow for a clean cut.

Shave with the grain of the skin not against it, if you want a closer shave, shave 90degrees to the grain, never against it.

Use a good shaving cream, and make sure the razor you're using is sharp and new.

Then follow with a good aftershave. This isnt just for smelling good, it kills any bacteria ensureing you dont get a skin infection if you ever cut yourself.
