For a bullshit answer:
Both spiders and snakes move "wierdly" compared to humans. Like, really wierd.
When we see them move, our brain models their movement, goes "woo woo waba waba" and gets the willies.
We associate the animal with the uncomforable brain reaction.
And thus, we become afraid of them.
Note, this is pure bullshit.
