i don't really know what purpose it would serve, (there were trains and such...but...)
it would be cool to flag a taxi down (saves you chasing after them) and hop in, and he could take you somewhere. (Maybe a point and click on the map)
Ditto for buses.
Maybe an "influence map" which shows a map of the city (ala vice city) but with your influence in a coloured region over it. What stuff you own etc. etc.
Non linear attacks, i.e. If your influence starts to encroach upon say The Blue Fist territory, then maybe a few attacks from Blue Fist Members on your businesses/fellow gang members/Increasing violence in that area.
