Speaking french is a must if you are looking to advance in the RCMP. As it does not operate as much in Ontario and Quebec (Thanks to the OPP and QPP), its not as much of an issue in the west or east..
The RCMP sending new officers to the north is getting out of date, There isnt as much need now, and new officers are specialized enough to not warrent the transfer
