It's not THAT he died, it's HOW he died. The fact that an intelligent man, who was REPORTING about the intersection being dangerous, walked in front of a car and got hit is, in my opinion, funny.
If I fell down an open manhole and died while ranting that people need to watch where they're going, I fucking HOPE everyone who heard about it laughed at me. The circumstances are funny, no matter who it is.
