Are you trying to burn it AS a DVD, or are you burning it as a data disc? I don't know if DVD-R works the same way, but with CD-R, if you have a bunch of mp3s that you burn onto a music CD, it will make it bigger. It will no longer be compressed. The same thing might be happening to you where you have, say, and AVI file, and it converts it to... whatever DVDs use. Dunno.
