i've used the term IMO... and for extra emphasis i've used IMHO...
it is quite annoying, especially when you catch yourself actually thinking about saying I-M-O at the beginning of a sentence during a tutorial or lesson.
i don't think the use of IMHO is pompous. i just think its lazy.
oh, and i thought the H stood for Honest.
