Breakfast at McD's for reward turns into breakfast at McD's everyday. That and some parents are just lazy- drive thrus are easier than cooking.
At any rate, I've always suspected the information this article mentions. Americans are fat lazy people. We eat terribly because it's easy. If we can't have the discipline to make ourselves eat healthy, there's no way we'll be able to convince a child to eat right (especially once they've developed a taste for happy meals).
My mom is also a kindergarten teacher and she tells me how things have changed over the last 30 years she's been doing it. I'm from a rural area and with a small school the lunches feature more homemade foods than most cafeterias. Things that kids used to love are now being thrown out because no one will eat them. Unless it's a frozen food or fast food thing the kids pretty much won't eat them anymore. Apparently parents don't cook anymore and kids don't get used to eating good food.
