Hey thanks for all the posts guys. It feels good to get some pats on the back.
Answers to some questions....
Motivation: Feb 03 I saw something I didn't expect.... A picture of me I didn't recognize. I was freakin huge. I was so embarassed by what I saw I couldn't even look at myself. I took stock of the situation... I couldn't bend over straight to tie my shoes, I had to wear my button up shirts open, etc. Then I went to the Dr to get a physical. I had high cholesterol, high blood pressure. I was only 26 years old!
I was infuriated with myself. I busted my ass for 3 mo.'s and lost 50lbs... BAM! Went back to the Dr and cholesterol and blood pressure was back to normal. Sweet.
Seeing the weight come off was some big time motivation, let me tell you. After that, it's been a slow conversion from fat -> muscle. I've been 245 now for about a year, but not the same body fat %.
Motivation now comes from being happy about small gains. If I add 5 lbs to my curls, I'm ecstatic. 10 lbs to my bench? I'm going to get a six-pack (of beer, heh). It all adds up.
New motivation is coming these days from the mirror. I've got shoulders!! Biceps! Triceps! A chest! When I flex, it looks kinda impressive!
Training: I have a friend who owns a nutrition shop next to one of the Bally's. He's an ex-Navy Seal, former personal trainer, former nutritionist. He taught me about weights, about my body, why things work the way they do. He wasn't interested in giving me a new weight plan every few months. He gave me the know how to do it on my own, made me buy books, get on the net.
Right now, I'm doing cardio for 45 mins at 5am, and lifting for 45 mins at 3pm. This routine might scare some people, but it's REALLY not necessary to make gains. I'm doing it because the fitness bug has just bitten me really freaking hard.
