a thousand bucks won't buy a whole lot of mac... but i'd get a 15" powerbook if i had the money.
i currently record/make music on a desktop pc. it's an older pIII, but it works.
really, the determining factor could be cost (or comfort with OS platforms).... there are professional musicians that will swear by either windows or mac...
