Not an expert, but from what I understand you don't want air in the jet system. If you run the tub with bubble bath, you're gonna get a lot of suds and air in the pump, and it'll "run dry." It's the same reason they tell ya that putting soap in a fountain will mess it up. Again....I dunno if all this is true, but that's how I understand it.
EDIT: Ok, I looked into it. It all depends on if it's a water jet or an air jet. Apparently the water jet system is the most common, and they advise NOT to use oils and soaps in a water jet system. However, it is ok to use in an air jet system.
