I think this is more of a question for product managers...
I am tempted to think that either:
a) no-one has thought of a good market for such a device (would you market it as a PDA (for business ppl) or a media player (for teenagers)
b) they want to cash in some more on the seperate devices before launching the killer. The market would drift to one type of device (instead of the 2 now) and that generates less total revenue.
